Got My Eye on You #20

H. Con. Res. 354 Expressing the continued support of Congress for requiring an institution of higher education to provide military recruiters with access to the institution’s campus and students at least equal inequality and scope to that which is provided to any other employer in order to be eligible for the receipt of certain Federal funds. This bill passed the House. It is interesting that they have to pass a bill to force universities to allow recruiters on campus. Something is wrong with that.

H. R. 4057 To provide that attorneys employed by the Department of Justice shall be eligible for compensatory time off for travel under section 5550b of title 5, United States Code. It takes an act of congress to get paid for travel, ridiculous. This bill was placed on union calendar, Calendar No. 212

H. R. 4942 To establish a capability and office to promote cooperation between entities of the United States and its allies in the global war on terrorism for the purpose of engaging in cooperative endeavors focused on the research, development, and commercialization of high-priority technologies intended to detect, prevent, respond to, recover from, and mitigate against acts of terrorism and other high consequence events and to address the homeland security needs of Federal, State, and local governments. Interesting bill, but it appears to be very long winded.

H. R. 4943 To prohibit fraudulent access to telephone records. Uh, isn’t this about X years late. X being the time since the telephone companies started keeping records.

H. R. 4945 To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to encourage new school construction through the creation of a new class of bond. Shouldn’t this be a local school board issue?

H. R. 4946 To prohibit the Department of Homeland Security from procuring certain items directly related to the national security unless the items are grown, reprocessed, reused, or produced in the United States. reprocessed, reused. That seems to leave things wide open, what is the purpose of this bill?

H. R. 4948 To abolish the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct in the House of Representatives, establish an Independent Ethics Commission, and provide for the transfer of the duties and functions of the committee to the Commission. Shouldn’t we establish the Independent Ethics Commission. How ‘independent’ is the commission going to be?

H. R. 4949 To amend title 10, United States Code, to prohibit increases in fees for military health care. Uh, okay. There is this one country that didn’t support free enterprise, USSR. Oh yeah their economy collapsed, this falls under the slippery slope category. First it is the military, then Medicare funded programs, than Medicaid funded programs. Pretty soon Private health care companies are not going to pay for the price increases. DON’T DO IT!!!

H. R. 4950 To establish the Commission on Economic Indicators to conduct a study and submit a report containing recommendations concerning the appropriateness and accuracy of the methodology, calculations, and reporting used by the Government relating to certain economic indicators. Uh, talk about government getting bigger.

H. R. 4951 To direct the Secretary of the Interior to take lands in Yuma County, Arizona, into trust as part of the reservation of the Cocopah Indian Tribe, and for other purposes. Intimate domain is already a touchy subject. ‘and for other purposes’ Well that just makes it hinky.

H. R. 4956 To provide for the mandatory revocation of passports of individuals who are more than $5,000 in arrears in child support payments. Keep them bastards here, so they can not get away. I hope my friend in Omaha with kids is not that far behind. If she is, sorry.

S. 2408 A bill to require the Director of National Intelligence to release documents captured in Afghanistan or Iraq during Operation Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, or Operation Iraqi Freedom. Wow Operation Desert Storm, that is like 13 years ago. Congress has not seen them yet?

H.R. 4898 To reallocate funds toward sensible priorities such as improved children’s education, increased children’s access to health care, expanded job training, and increased energy efficiency and conservation through a reduction of wasteful defense spending, and for other purposes. I love the fact that someone is considering this.

H. R. 4910 To prohibit the manufacture, sale, marketing, or distribution of products or substances designed or intended to defraud a drug test.
Oh, you sneaky smokers, drinkers, etc. They are trying to catch you up.

Bills that made it out of committee

Got My Eye On You #15

Stupid International Tariffs. H. R. 4808 To prohibit the importation of motor vehicles of the People’s Republic of China until the tariff rates that China imposes on motor vehicles of the United States are equal to the rates of duty applicable to motor vehicles of the People’s Republic of China under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States. I want my Daewoo.

H.R. 4817: To prohibit entities owned or controlled by foreign governments from carrying out operations at seaports in the United States. This is just what I was talking about at work, today.

H.R. 4819 To amend the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 to prohibit nonparty multicandidate political committees from making contributions in support of campaigns for election for Federal office, and for other purposes. This is the most partisan thing I have ever read to official be introduced as a bill.

S. Con. Res. 82 A concurrent resolution to establish a procedure for the appointment of independent Congressional Ethics Office to investigate ethics violations in the Senate and the House of Representatives. Found under what the hell is really going on in Washington, D.C.

I Haven’t given up yet, congress was in recess. But they are back and my eye is open.

Today the Senate is putting the Port sale issue to the coals. I say block it Senator Nelson, and Senator Hagel. I finally remembered their names without looking them up, YEAH!!

S.R. Res. 32 A joint resolution disapproving the results of the review conducted by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) into the purchase of Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation (P&O) by Dubai Ports World (DP World).
S. 2333 A bill to require an investigation under the Defense Production Act of1950 of the acquisition by Dubai Ports World of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company, and for other purposes.

S. 1052 A bill to improve transportation security, and for other purposes. This bill is of upmost important, especially because of the port sale. It was introduced May 17, 2005. I will be writing letter for this one.

Update 14 b-?, and 15 is on the way

Got My Eye on You #13

H. Con. Res. 78 Condemning the Government of Iran for violating its international nuclear nonproliferation obligations and expressing support for efforts to report Iran to the United Nations Security Council. Lee Terry voted Aye It is currently in the Senate, no info on it yet.

H. R. 4774 To amend the Clean Air Act to require that, after the year 2012, all gasoline sold to consumers in the United States for motor vehicles contain not less than 10 percent renewable fuel and for other purposes. 10% what a joke, it is a good move. Of course there is that whole E85 which is 85% ethanol and 15% gas. No need to force them to do that or anything. This bill is currently in the house.

H. Res. 687 Raising a question of the privileges of the House. Not a bill but I wonder what this is about?

H. Res. 688 Amending the Rules of the House of Representatives to require that legislation and conference reports be available on the Internet for 72hours before consideration by the House, and for other purposes. Not a bill once again, but this is interesting. Will slow down the legislative process.

H. Res. 694 Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that, following a year of record setting profits, major petroleum products companies should incorporate the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program into their corporate citizenship and responsibility programs. A great idea seeing how people have $1,000 monthly bill, up from $200.

H. R. 4772 To simplify and expedite access to the Federal courts for injured parties whose rights and privileges under the United States Constitution have been deprived by final actions of Federal agencies or other government officials or entities acting under color of State law, and for other purposes. Guantanmo Bay would be in trouble

H. R. 4782 To permanently prohibit oil and gas leasing off the coast of the State of California, and for other purposes. H. R. 4783 To prohibit offshore drilling on the outer Continental Shelf off the State of Florida, and for other purposes. Keep our water clean

H. R. 4797 To protect America’s citizen soldiers. Get them out of Iraq

S. 2310 A bill to repeal the requirement for 12 operational aircraft carriers within the Navy. A funding cut for the military, sweet.
