H.R. 4898 To reallocate funds toward sensible priorities such as improved children’s education, increased children’s access to health care, expanded job training, and increased energy efficiency and conservation through a reduction of wasteful defense spending, and for other purposes. I love the fact that someone is considering this.

H. R. 4910 To prohibit the manufacture, sale, marketing, or distribution of products or substances designed or intended to defraud a drug test.
Oh, you sneaky smokers, drinkers, etc. They are trying to catch you up.

Bills that made it out of committee

Got My Eye on You #18b

I wrote a letter to Lee Terry. I didn’t get to it yesterday, but I got to it.

Hello:
I noticed that H. Res. 641, and H. Res. 645 made it out of their respective committees. This bills are important to the American Congress to get clarity on the Presidents decision to wiretap American phone lines. I urge you to vote yes on the passage of these House Resolutions. We need to know why he thought it was okay to authorize the Secretary of Defense to utilize these wiretaps. I hope you will support you fellow members of Congress, and the citizens of your district. Once again, I am asking you to vote for H. Res. 641, and H. Res. 645

H. R. 32 To amend title 18, United States Code, to provide criminal penalties for trafficking in counterfeit marks. Shouldn’t this already have been a crime? Lee Terry co-sponsored this bill. There is no reason to write to him about this bill, it is just interesting that it is not already a penalties for it.

H. R. 4833 was referred to the Subcommittee on Economic Security, Infrastructure Protection, and Cybersecurity. This is a good move, it means the bill will not be totally dead yet. It may come up for discussion.

H. R. 4840 To amend the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to establish requirements for appointment of the Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and for other purposes. uh, duh.

H. R. 4880 To direct the Commandant of the Coast Guard to require that a security plan for a maritime facility be resubmitted for approval upon transfer of ownership or operation of such facility, and for other purposes.
H. R. 4881 To promote the national defense by establishing requirements for the ownership, management, and operation of critical infrastructure in the United States, and for other purposes.
Both of these bills relate to the security of the US Port system.

H.R. 4883 To provide justice for crime victims’ families, and for other purposes. I have not had one of these, but you never know.

H. R. 4885 To amend the Defense Production Act of 1950 to prohibit acquisitions, mergers, or takeovers of persons engaged in interstate commerce in the United States by entities controlled by or acting on behalf of foreign governments that do not recognize countries that are member states of the United Nations, participate in boycotts against countries that are friendly to the United States, or provide support for international terrorism. This is a proactive stance, so the Dubai port deal will not happen again.

H. R. 4889 To grant the power to the President to reduce budget authority. OH HELL NO. This is why the president presents the budget to congress. Congress approves it, or doesn’t. None of this writing your check and cashing it too. If it makes it out of committee, zing.

Bills that made it out of committee

Call from Senator Nelson

He called to say he received my letter, I just got a message. I am sure it wasn’t him, just one of his lackey, Andrew. But it is still pretty cool, they know my name in that office.

ON 2/28 there were Roll Call Votes 14, 15, and 16. You voted Aye on 14, and 16. You were absent for the vote on 15. I was wondering how come you missed that vote, but not the other two the same day? The vote was on H. Res. 668.

This is an update on previous mentioned bills.

H.R. 4709 has been ‘ordered to be Reported (Amended) by Voice Vote. It means: the process by which congressional committees and subcommittees debate, amend, and rewrite proposed legislation, I didn’t know what it meant either. Lee Terry is not on this committee.

H. R. 4828 To provide grants to units of local government and States to hire personnel to monitor the activities of sex offenders.
H. R. 4833 To require that only United States persons may control security operations at seaports in the United States or enter into agreements to conduct such security operations. Long time coming, it should have so been last year!

Stupid International Tariffs. H. R. 4808 To prohibit the importation of motor vehicles of the People’s Republic of China until the tariff rates that China imposes on motor vehicles of the United States are equal to the rates of duty applicable to motor vehicles of the People’s Republic of China under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States. I want my Daewoo.

H.R. 4817: To prohibit entities owned or controlled by foreign governments from carrying out operations at seaports in the United States. This is just what I was talking about at work, today.

H.R. 4819 To amend the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 to prohibit nonparty multicandidate political committees from making contributions in support of campaigns for election for Federal office, and for other purposes. This is the most partisan thing I have ever read to official be introduced as a bill.

S. Con. Res. 82 A concurrent resolution to establish a procedure for the appointment of independent Congressional Ethics Office to investigate ethics violations in the Senate and the House of Representatives. Found under what the hell is really going on in Washington, D.C.
