Got My Eye on You #25

Congressional Daily Digest for 3/29/06
Senate: Introduced 13 bills, and Three resolutions.
House of Representatives: Introduced 14 bills, Eight resolutions.

H. Con. Res. 369 Expressing the support of Congress for the “25 by 25 Initiative”, which envisions that farm, forestry, and ranch lands in the United States will provide by 2025 at least 25 percent of the energy consumed in the United States, and, in furtherance of the “25 x 25 Initiativeā€, promoting the increased production of renewable energy by the forestry and agricultural communities. This is a good one, of course a small step. But a step none the less. I sent a question to an ‘expert’ at the Department of Energy. I just want to know what the current production is, so where we are to where we need to go. Also this bill does not have the effect of law, so it basically means shit.

H. Con. Res. 370 Expressing the sense of the Congress that Saudi Arabia should fully live up to its World Trade Organization commitments and end all aspects of any boycott on Israel. Stop laughing, I know it is funny. Congress expressing a sense of WTO responsibilities. We were sanctioned by the EU/WTO in March 2004

H. Res. 744 Supporting the goals and ideals of a National Children and Families Day, in order to encourage adults in the United States to support and listen to children and to help children throughout the Nation achieve their hopes and dreams, and for other purposes. This should not take an act of congress for us to do this.

H. R. 5036 To amend the Lobbying Disclosure Act of 1995 to require the disclosure of the original source of funds made payable to a lobbyist who is subcontracted to engage in lobbying activities on behalf of a third person or entity, and the disclosure of the identity of that third person or entity.

H. R. 5039 To establish a program to revitalize rural multifamily housing assisted under the Housing Act of 1949. Weird, this seems like an act that should have been passed when HUD was created.

H. R. 5040 To modify the law with respect to the death penalty, and for other purposes. Oooh, some good ole death penalty action.

H. R. 5049 To establish a market-based system to regulate greenhouse gas emissions and to promote advanced energy research and technology development and deployment, and for other purposes. Oooh such a bad idea.

S. 2467 A bill to enhance and improve the trade relations of the United States by strengthening United States trade enforcement efforts and encouraging United States trading partners to adhere to the rules and norms of international trade, and for other purposes. This bill was introduced on 3/28 and is already placed on the Calendar No. 381. I will probably write a letter to Chuck Hagel, and Ben Nelson.

S. 2468 A bill to provide standing for civil actions for declaratory and injunctive relief to persons who refrain from electronic communications through fear of being subject to warrantless electronic surveillance for foreign intelligence purposes, and for other purposes. Tasty, given people afraid of being spied on some back bone to stand with.

H. R. 5025 was referred to the House subcommittee on Department Operations, Oversight, Nutrition, and Forestry.

Hearings was held on S. 2429

    Bad idea?

    1. Why

It sounds like a good idea, I give you that. But with the additional costs of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, how willing is the market going to be. The automobile industry in America does just enough to meet the federal requirements. There is not a definate requirement in place.

I think there will not be a great initiative in the market to reduce emissions. Looking at today’s cars and the effort to develop a ‘true’ alternative fuel. Hydrogen is alternative to gasoline, but the distribution system is going to be no different than gasoline. With ethanol which can be made and produced within local(100 miles) areas. That is a great alternative fuel. Hydrogen is better than oil(international conflicts and everything), but ethanol/solar power(high start-up and production cost, but low operating costs) is the best.

I am glad that you asked me why I feel that way. If this is not good enough, feel free to ask a follow-up.

          1. Re: Agreed

            Yeah.

This is totally off subject. But I just remembered that lots of people think Nixon was a bad president, but he was the one that got us out of Vietnam. Psh to them.

          2. Imposter by Bruce Bartlett

He had an entire chapter comparing Bush to Nixon. Not really off topic.
