All fun and games aside, Unions are so over, bastards make around $2500 a week and are bitching. GREEDY BASTARDS.
They’re making $2500 a week for 10 weeks now, but the company is planning on hiring a second orchestra, which will drastically cut down on their hours.
And they’re making $133 for the first two shows and $200 for the shows past that… the going rate for musicians in that market is $175 and $250, which adds up quickly.
Add to that the piddly cost-of-living increase. It’s less than the rate of inflation, so it amounts to an automatic pay cut.
And that they’re living in a very expensive place full of people who would love to take their jobs… if they weren’t unionized, the company could just fire the people who spoke up and hire some kid off the bus from Iowa to fill the seat for minimum wage. Good for ticket prices (assuming the savings were passed down to the customers) but bad for the art.
The musicians earned their spots in that orchestra, but it takes some solidarity to fight the current state of corporate philosophy.
All True, but $1300 is still better than what they will make from the union while they are on strike. They could give them $206 a week(minimum wage), but the are being nice. I still say UNION time has come and go, it ruins the free enterprise system. No one is forcing them to work, if they don’t like it they could just quit. Instead of threating to quit. Oviously they are replacable, and it would be so much cheaper to higher and technicians and pay the licesing fees.
