No Tax Increase

The following is an e-mail to my City Council Member.

I’m sure you’ve heard about the UNMC | Cancer Center Project.

It is a great idea. Douglas County has already pledged $5,000,000 from inheritance tax. That isn’t an increase in taxes, so it is less importance. NOT that is a better/best use of resources. They already have $50,000,000 million from the state.

Stay tuned to other (additional) news sources about this.

Also remember that City Council Members are up for elections in MMXIII. Also the President of the University of Nebraska is appointed by the Regents (who we elect as well).

Good Afternoon & Happy Friday Chris,

I am contacting you about the proposed Cigarette Tax increase to fund the UNMC med center.

I know that the unicameral gave the option for Private & other sources of funding.

I’m not a smoker & don’t like smoking.

Targeting one group of our population to build something like this isn’t right.

This reminds me of :

First they came for the communists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a communist.

Then they came for the socialists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a trade unionist.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me..

UNMC needs to find another revenue stream to build this item.
