4,486 Homeless children

The latest survey on the homeless population reports the number homeless children in Nebraska stands at 4,486.

And less than 25 percent of them will finish high school.

That’s according to the latest report by the National Center on Family Homelessness.

“Education is the key to getting out of poverty,” said Candace Gregory, CEO and President of Omaha’s Open Door Mission.

In an effort to break the cycle of impoverishment, Omaha’s Open Door Mission has programs for parents and kids to become literate, get back to school and seek higher education.

Tonight the Mission held a celebration highlighting its education effort for children in families of need.

The Mission recognized 36 shelter children for their academic success. Three shelter children made the honor roll.

The National Coalition for the Homeless estimates homeless children are fours times as likely to drop out of school.

Hopefully one day the kids & everyone(who wants one) will have a home.

My friend in the digital age, isn’t friendly

@jara_b I’m splitting it three ways, but I got the splitter from @Cox_Comm, so it should be working fine.  Just started happening yesterday.  My neighbor isn’t even splitting hers.

They also are not as good as Comcast in responding via twitter, & I haven’t been a customer of Comcast, EVER.

That’s not good business.

How is your day?

Today is Thursday 02/10/V3.1 & its a nice day.

This morning I woke up(NO THE SUN WAS NOT SHINING), but it is now.

I got up(yeah, nothing special), worked out a little bit.  Did some boxing on the Wii Machine.  Took my Wii Fit Test, you can find the results here after 12:00.  I post the results to twitter in an expeditious manner, you can follow me there.

I’m heading to The Big L today in support of LB 543 & 663.  I won’t be testifying, but people from Food Bank for the Heartland.  Our organization supports these too bills aimed for SNAP.

The word of the day is daedal, and it means Complex or ingenious in form or function; intricate.  That is the life of Vernon J.  I’m so loving of it, speaking of loving it.  Watch for another blog entry about slogans.

I hope you have a wonderful day, keep ya head boppin.
